2501 - Speckled Hen Clone

Brewfather

Intro

An all full-grain kit produced by The Malt Miller, just hope that I can do justice to the original with this clone. It's been a while since I did battle with full-grain brews, memories of eight hour days.
The brew day went well, and fermentation appeared to be OK.

The Brew

Memories of my olden days with full grain brew days taking the best part of eight hours. This was quicker, helped by mashing in the boiler; though I got the sparging a little wrong.

Sparging, where it went a bit wrong!

Sparging - Ran hot water through the grain thinking that I'd judged the boil volume about right, wandered off for lunch leaving the grain draining; returned to a rather full boiler. An extended boil brought the volume down to roughly where it should be for the fermenter and the OG.

The Boil

After the boil, transferred to the fermenter and left to cool overnight, then the yeast direct pitched after aerating the wort.
